Q.
Your B&B is off-grid so do you have enough hot water for
showers and baths?
|
|
Every
time my mom visits she asks this question :) She is the cutest.
The simple answer is YES! Our water is heated by the sun via
thermal tubes and when there is not enough sun a propane on-demand
water heater takes over. There is plenty of hot water to go
around.

Q.
What happens when there is no wind or sun? Do you run out of
electricity?
|
|
Great
question! The simple answer is that we don't run out of electricity.
We store the electricity we produce from the wind and sun in
deep cell batteries which provide about 1.5 days of power. When
the batteries get low a backup propane generator automatically
comes on to fill the batteries again.

|
Q.
Do you have air conditioning?
|
|
No,
we cannot have air conditioning in a "green" home
as the electrical demand is huge and would then defeat the purpose
of living green. For the most part, BudLake stays very comfortable
because of the insulating effect of the 10" log walls,
passive solar design that keeps the summer sun out and the great
breezes that run across the property. If it does get extremely
hot outside for a number of consecutive days we have fans in
the guest rooms and strongly recommend a dip in the spring fed
BudLake followed by a cold gin & tonic before bed :) You
will sleep like a baby.

Q.
Do you really allow dogs at BudLake?
|
|
|
A.
You bet we do! BudLake is a dog paradise with lots of room
to run, explore and even swim. Katie, Queen of BudLake, is
a friendly 1 year old shepherd-lab cross and loves to entertain
her canine visitors.
To
make this work for everyone we have a few "house"
rules that we require our guests to follow:
- Although very large dogs (St. Bernard, Alaskan Malamute,
Great Dane etc) are welcome they will need to visit outside
or in the garage and not in the house. A large outdoor fenced
and covered kennel (about 10' x 10') is available or feel
free to bring a crate.
- Your dog MUST be very socialized, great with adults,
children and other dogs.
-
Your pooch MUST be totally house broken and we asks
guests to clean up after their dogs outside. Please make sure
your dog is current on all vaccinations and shots.
- Canine friends are not allowed on any furniture including
beds. We can provide a dog bed for your pooch if required
and dogs (one per room) must sleep in your room with you and
on the floor.
- Your dog is your responsibility and if you are leaving BudLake
to visit the Lake Huron attractions you will need to take
them with you or we can recommend kennels in the area.
